Quotes (#19)

“The righteousness of God, or a righteousness of God's completing, a righteousness of God's bestowing, a righteousness that God also gives unto, and puts upon all them that believe (Rom 3:22), a righteousness that stands in the works of Christ, and that is imputed both by the grace and justice of God (v 24-26). Where, now, is room for man's righteousness, either in the whole, or as to any part thereof? I say, where, as to justification with God?”-John Bunyan

A Debate on King James Onlyism

This debate on exclusive King James Onlyism, in London a few days ago between Dr. James White, who has authored a book entitled The King James Only Controversy and Dr. Jack Moorman, a KJV-onlyist, who is a missionary to Great Britain and author of Forever Settled Although I'm not sure if this was intended, this year is the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Version of the Bible (released in 1611).

It is worth noting that James White is right that the KJV, although I find it to be a good translation, King James I of England, successor of Elizabeth I (r. 1603-1625) who, as son of Mary, Queen of Scots, also reigned as James VI of Scotland between 1567-1625 did indeed have some say in the translation.

Quotes (#18)

A quote from Clement of Rome (1st Century AD to circa 99-101

“This is the way, beloved, in which we find our Saviour, even Jesus Christ, the High Priest of all our offerings, the defender and helper of our infirmity. By Him we look up to the heights of heaven. By Him we behold, as in a glass, His immaculate and most excellent visage. By Him are the eyes of our hearts opened. By Him our foolish and darkened understanding blossoms up anew towards His marvellous light. By Him the Lord has willed that we should taste of immortal knowledge, ‘who, being the brightness of His majesty, is by so much greater than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.’ For it is thus written, ‘Who makes His angels spirits, and His ministers a flame of fire.’"-Clement of Rome

A Good Question

With all these flamboyant prosperity preachers running around, on channels like TBN, including Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Benny Hinn, Creflo Dollar, Paul & Jan Crouch, etc., Ray Stevens asks a good question: "Would He wear a pinky ring, would He drive a fancy car would His wife wear furs and diamonds, would His dressing room have a star? If He came back tomorrow there's something I'd like to know: would Jesus wear a rolex on His television show?"
